Kids Were Here

Kids Were Here- December 2014

” A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot and realize how blessed you are…” – unknown

As I tried to capture a picture of the annual handprint Christmas decorations of my littles, I discovered a  bullet from O or L’s Nerf gun lodged in our Christmas tree.  My “Kids Were Here” picture… DONE!  In all seriousness, these three handprints represent my 3 greatest blessings.

Kids Were Here- November 2014

“Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart.
Let me not pass you by in the quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.”
–Mary Jean Iron

Sweet girl, you had a wonderful afternoon doing a little mad science with interesting potions and concoctions.

Kids Were Here- October 2014

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you`ll look back and realize they were the big things.” Kurt Vonnegut

October has been a busy, wonderful month. Beautiful Fall weather meant lots of trips to the park, a great weekend at Whistler and lovely, afternoon light pouring in the windows.  It seems like everywhere I go, there is evidence that my “Kids Were Here”… and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kids Were Here- September 2014

“The days are long, but the years are short.”

Dear M, O & L, This past summer seemed to go on forever. The teachers’ strike and the beautiful weather lasted until the third week of September.  To be completely honest, I know that we were all ready for the routines of school to begin. After rushing you off to school last Monday, I looked around our house and saw the evidence of you everywhere. There was tugging at my heart… had I treasured the extra time with you enough? I really hope so.  You are my greatest joys.

All my Love, Mama

My Kids Were Here- July 2014

“When I first began this project, I thought it would be fun to document the every day messes my children make. As the weeks have passed, this project has really become so much more than that.
It’s not really about messes at all, but about the stories they tell. It’s about traces of childhood I see throughout my home on a daily basis. It’s about the love we share together. It’s about living and being…creating, making, learning and trying. This project leaves me a beautiful story each month of the reminders that Kids are here now…and the time, well, its all too fleeting, isn’t it? We all need to embrace these moments and just live them too; because they really are the best moments of life.” -Ginger Unzueta

M, July is your birthday month. You made me a Mama, Sweet Girl and I love you more than you will ever know! It is a joy watching you grow into the beautiful, amazing person that you are.  Happy, Happy Birthday!

You could hardly sleep the night before your birthday because you were so excited. Daddy got up very early for work on your birthday and you were already up so you got to open your Birthday present, an American Girl doll that looks just like you!

My Kids Were Here- June 2014

“I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things in life which are the real ones after all.” ~Laura Ingalls Wilder

Oh Sweet Girl, you are so full of imagination and wonder these days. You were so excited to see a tiny mouse skittering through the backyard. Eek! When I came outside later, I noticed that you made a sign and left a dish of water out for the mouse.

Middle Man, you love playing sports right now, especially baseball. The other afternoon, we went to the baseball field so you could hit some balls. You carefully laid out all  your gear and of course, your signature granola bar.

Little Man, you are doing so well with potty training. (No more diapers soon. Mama is happy-sad about that!)

My Kids Were Here – May 2014

“To see the high check marks on the report card before I see the low ones …

To see her beautiful swimming form before I notice what place she comes in …

To see she’s dressed herself before I notice the cowboy boots and tank top combination …

To see she’s made her own breakfast before I notice cereal scattered across the counter …

To see the clever artwork she’s created before I notice the mess …

To see the way she beams when she plays her guitar before I notice the out-of-tune notes …

To see the effort and the attempt before I see the mistakes and the shortcomings …

To see the beauty and goodness before I see the flaws and imperfections.

This is how I want to live. To notice the good—always the good—

before anything else… and above all else.”

Sweet M, what a joy it was listening to you giggle away while you were drawing this picture of Yoda and Luke Sky Walker dancing. Your brothers wanted you to come outside so your paper and pencil crayons were left on the table as you ran out the door to join them.

Middle Man, you are loving our new bath tub so you are having 2 baths a day with your goggles on. Lots of baths are a good thing because you are so dirty from playing outside.

Little Man, it did not take you very long to figure out your “run” bike. Soon you were off like the wind after your sister and brother, your little legs running as fast as they could go.
